“She went out of her way to provide help whenever it was needed and I never felt rushed in our discussions.”

– Carolyn

“Arlyne is an absolute pleasure, both on a professional level as well as a personal level. Throughout my kids’ sessions with her, she became an invaluable resource for many aspects of their education, not just related to their speech and language difficulties. She became our friend because of the genuine interest she showed in my children’s struggles and pride she showed in their successes. Both the kids and I had an instant rapport with her that contributed to the rapid progress they made with their therapy. She went out of her way to provide help whenever it was needed and I never felt rushed in our discussions, whether they were after therapy appointments or on the phone-even evenings or weekends! I do not hesitate to refer her for any age or area in need of help – my kids had different diagnoses and varied from grammar school, middle school and high school. Her support of them – and me- will never be forgotten.”

“In 10 years of having gone through various speech specialists, Dr. Russo is the gem who out-shines all.”

– Meryl

“Finding an experienced speech therapist who has the professional know-how to address the phenomenon of stuttering encountered by bicultural children would be at best looking for a needle in the haystack, or finding your true love. Relocating to Fairfield County from Singapore, my son’s speech challenges revisited with a fever that couldn’t be tamed. Despite having extended therapy sessions with a few speech experts, he has not seen visible progress. When we found Dr.Russo, within a few sessions, my son’s fluency has returned! Was it magic? Dr.Russo’s affinity with children is definitely magical. What is even more fascinating is her professional approaches. I feel that she understands speech dysfluencies may often be accompanied by contextual cognitive affects which vary from one child to another due to external challenges imposed on them. In her speech therapeutic approaches, I observed she has incorporated this sensitivity in her strategies, addressing each child’s needs uniquely. Her therapy is oriented on a holistic paradigm to identify, craft and implement a well being direction for the child. This is a fine point, because many speech experts may be great with techniques, but miss this critical therapeutic “secret”. In 10 years of having gone through various speech specialists, Dr. Russo is the gem who out-shines all. My son continues to see her bi-monthly to maintain fluency, on my insistence. It is noteworthy that fluency needs to be maintained to circumvent regressions. This cannot be emphasized enough. The only problem in my writing this review is a hesitation to reveal “where the gem is”, and Dr. Russo may end up too busy to see my son! :). Wishing all great health and joys.”

“Deciding to send our son to Arlyne was one of the best decisions we’ve made.”

– CR

“I cannot say enough wonderful things about Arlyne. My (9 year old) son struggled with articulation. In the very short period of time she has been working with him, she has fixed the errors. He has gone from reluctantly participating at school and speaking quietly in groups to speaking confidently and clearly.

I cannot recommend her enough. We have tried other approaches in the past both through school and with other therapists. They were not beneficial and he dreaded the sessions. With Arlyne, he looked forward to their time together! Arlyne is both incredibly effective and wonderful with her patients.

Deciding to send our son to Arlyne was one of the best decisions we’ve made. Thank you, Arlyne.”

How has Arlyne helped you or a loved one with a speech problem? We’d love to hear about it and feature it on the website.

“I have stuttered since I began to speak in my youth, and I am now a young adult, still a mild stutterer. I have been to about 4 other speech therapists before meeting Arlyne. Each one gave me some type of technique. These techniques sometimes worked to some extent. I found them to be tedious and honestly annoying to use all the time. Imagine before you speak, you need to tell yourself to do some type of technique, that is sometimes difficult to use. These prior techniques were sometimes more frustrating to use than stuttering. However, Arlyne did not teach me an annoying technique. She taught me simply how to speak more clearly with fluency. When using what she taught me, I do not find it to be a hassle to use, like prior “techniques” I have been taught. I find it enjoyable to speak, and I am more confident and willing to speak. What I have learned from Arlyne is not a hassle to use, and it becomes more automatic (or second nature) the more you practice. I saw results on my first day, during the session with her. I read two news articles without a single stutter. That was normally unheard for me! Only after a month of weekly sessions, I have been using what I have learned in the real world, with success. Even if you have tried other speech therapists and feel like nothing will work (like I have previously felt), I would still recommend trying Arlyne’s services. She does not use typical techniques of most speech therapists. For me, meeting Arlyne was a godsend.”

“…Arlyne not only noticed it in her first sit down with our son but within 6 weeks helped him!”

– Heather

“Arlyne is wonderful. She was able to help our son in a way that the schools weren’t able to and we couldn’t be more grateful. She was patient and comforting and kept assuring us that she could help and she did. Our son developed a stutter that the school said “they didn’t notice” though it was beyond us that they didn’t see it. Arlyne not only noticed it in her first sit down with our son but within 6 weeks helped him! Thank you Arlyne!!”

“I owe what I accomplished in my academic career to a dedicated teacher, Ms. Russo…”

– Robert

“In my sophomore year in high school, I was having a difficult time adjusting to the demanding workload. I did not seem to process the information I was hearing in class and use it properly. Mrs. Russo taught me new techniques and methods that I used in class. I began to learn and felt more confident and capable doing my work. In junior year, my grades began to improve and my attitude towards school was more positive. I owe what I accomplished in my academic career to a dedicated teacher, Ms. Russo, who showed me that that I had the potential to be a successful student and a confident human being.”

“Friends and family who I have known for my whole life were amazed at how much I had improved.”

– Maddie

“I have stuttered for as long as I can remember. For the longest time it didn’t bother me. It was just part of who I was. But, as I grew older I became self-conscious about the way I spoke. I rarely raised my hand in class and was always afraid of what people thought of my speech. I had tried speech therapy as a young child, but nothing ever helped. So, my mom did more research and came across Dr. Arlyne Russo. Every week for months my mom and I drove one hour each way for my appointment. And little by little I began to see improvements. The people around me were noticing as well. Friends and family who I have known for my whole life were amazed at how much I had improved. Today, I am no longer afraid to raise my hand in class. I feel like a completely different person, who has a future and a life that wouldn’t be possible without the help I received from Dr. Russo.

I also wanted to let you know that I will be attending medical school at UConn in the fall! This would never have been possible without your help over the years. I was able to go to my interviews and just be myself without worrying about my speech. And you gave that to me! I wouldn’t be where I am today without you  and I will forever be grateful for everything you have done to help me reach fluency!”
